“I think it’s pretty normal to think it’ll be easy to start a family. For most couples preventing a pregnancy is what you do for a while! We were young and naive and also very hopeful. It didn’t work out like we had hoped. We watched many family members and friends expand their family or become parents for the first time. We were happy for them. We really were. But we we were so sad for ourselves. It’s a weird feeling to be genuinely happy and crushed at the same time.

My husband and I went through a couple of years of trying naturally, fertility testing at two different clinics, surgery, unsuccessful IUIs, IVF, two Frozen Embryo Transfers (FET) and miscarriages (not to mention a whole lotta money!) before we were able to call our family complete.

Our story isn’t really unique though. When you start opening up with others and hearing their journeys, you realize you are more like them than you probably though. I can honestly say that I know more people who have struggled to get pregnant than not. What IS unique, though, is the bond you share with these people.

Today I am so thankful for infertility and our journey. I am thankful for my faith and my support system to get us through becoming a family. Most of all, I am thankful for my two amazing kids. They were made with love and science.”
